The City of Greater Geelong (CoGG) asserts that there is insufficient local demand to justify building a $12m swimming pool and has advised local people to go to the pool at Ocean Grove.
In response, DCSCA has proposed a compromise: nominate space for a pool in the Masterplan for the proposed sports/recreation hub at the junction of Andersons Road and Grubb Road in Drysdale and and state how big the local population must be to justify building a pool. When the local population reaches that stated size, build the pool.
DCSCA is arguing strongly that there is clear - and growing - demand for a local pool and that the planned increase in population will increase the demand. It takes so long to build a pool that by the time a pool is finished, the demand - even on the Council's figures - would justify it.
